Blepharoplasty IN LOS ANGELES, CA

What is Blepharoplasty?

The eyelids are one of the first facial features to give away your age. Whether you have droopy upper eyelids or puffy lower eyelids, sometimes being rested and healthy isn’t enough to give your eyes that youthful sparkle. Our patients from all over the world, and nearby cities like Los Angeles and Beverly Hills choose Eyelid Surgery for pleasing improvements that revive their entire eye area. At our office in Los Angeles Blepharoplasty (aka eyelid surgery) can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both. This procedure revives the eye area by removing sagging skin from the upper eyelids, tightening droopy lower eyelids, and reducing puffy bags from underneath the eyes. Often our Los Angeles and Beverly Hills eyelid surgery patients choose to combine it with other facial sculpting procedures, such as facelift, brow lift, and rhinoplasty.

What are the benefits of Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is the solution for tired, aged eyes that sag or appear puffy. Excess fat, skin, and muscle are removed from the lower and upper eyelids during eyelid surgery, giving them a significantly younger appearance. The operation takes only 45 minutes, yet the results are long-lasting and significantly improve your desired appearance. In addition to aesthetic concerns, eyelid surgery can also be performed to fix functional issues. Specifically, with Blepharoplasty Los Angeles patients can address the following concerns:

  • Under eye bags
  • Lower eyelid wrinkling and excess skin
  • Loose or sagging skin that distorts the natural shape of your eye
  • Sagging upper eyelid that obstructs your vision
  • Puffy eyes due to fat accumulation around your eyes
  • Sagging or drooping lower eyelids that expose the white beneath your iris.

Am I a good candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a treatment that both men and women can have. Although the average patient is at least 35 years old, younger individuals with inherited eyelid impairments may opt for the procedure.

Candidates for blepharoplasty who have realistic expectations for the procedure's outcome are ideal candidates. Although eyelid surgery can make you appear younger and more confident, it will not remove wrinkles, dark circles under the eyes, or drooping eyebrows. Before undergoing surgery, if you suffer from dry eyes, hypertension, circulatory problems, thyroid disorders, diabetes, heart disease, or glaucoma, you should talk with your surgeon to ensure Blepharoplasty is the right procedure for you.

What Type of Eyelid Surgery Do I Need?

Depending on the issue of your eyelid concerns that you wish to correct or alter, our professional surgeons at Marina Plastic Surgery may suggest several surgical options to ensure you achieve your desired results. The following descriptions provide an overview of the three surgical procedures that are offered here, and your doctor will discuss how each can accomplish your aesthetic objectives through Blepharoplasty in Los Angeles.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty surgery decreases loose skin over the eye. Skin loses suppleness and resilience with age, and loose skin can make it difficult to open the eyes, reducing vision. Upper eyelid surgery can help. Excess skin and tissue are removed through small incisions, restoring eyelid function.

Lower Blepharoplasty

During a lower blepharoplasty, there are several different approaches to your surgery that can be performed.

Transconjunctival Lower Lid Blepharoplasty

A transconjunctival lower lid blepharoplasty is often chosen when no skin needs to be taken off. An incision is made on the inside of the lower eyelid, so there is no scar or other sign of the surgery.

Transcutaneous Lower Lid Blepharoplasty

For a transcutaneous lower lid blepharoplasty, a subciliary incision, also called a "pinching" technique, is used to remove fat and skin that sticks out from under the eyelid.

Transconjunctival Arcus Marginalis Release

A transconjunctival arcus marginalis release moves the fat inside the lid to keep some volume in the soft tissue. It stops the ridge of the orbital bone from sticking out too much, which makes the eyes look hollow and the face looks older.

Double Eyelid Surgery

Some individuals have double eyelids, often known as visible eyelid wrinkles. Sometimes people are born without eyelid creases. This is known as a monolid or a single lid. There is no medical issue with either. Double eyelid surgery, also known as Asian Eyelid Surgery is a type of Blepharoplasty that creates double eyelids by forming a crease in the top of the eyelids. If you wish to remedy an issue, such as droopy eyelids or eye bags, or if you want to alter the appearance of your eyelids, you may choose this surgery.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Eyelid surgery can refresh and renew the facial appearance of women and men of all ages. Many patients notice eyelid sagging and puffiness gradually increases as part of the natural aging process; others have always had loose upper eyelid skin. Some patients require a brow lift instead of Blepharoplasty to achieve their desired improvements. When there is only minor sagging eyelid surgery can sometimes be delayed with a non-surgical facial rejuvenation option such as Thermage. Your surgeon will help you determine the right procedure for you during your personalized consultation.

Are There Any Non-Surgical Alternatives for Blepharoplasty?

As an alternative to traditional surgical techniques for blepharoplasty, we can perform eyelid surgery using modern laser technology.

Because the laser seals blood vessels immediately, bleeding, swelling, and bruising are all reduced. The time required for recovery from laser eyelid surgery is usually shorter than for the traditional method. At Marina Plastic Surgery, our surgeons possess the specialized skill and knowledge required to address the intricacies of Blepharoplasty.

We have a detailed understanding of the ethnic variations in eyelid anatomy and the surgical skill necessary to achieve your individual goals while preserving your ethnicity. We strive to open up the eye area and give our patients a more defined and sculpted upper eyelid crease. How Is Blepharoplasty Performed?

Your surgeon will deliver intravenous sedation or general anesthesia based on the Blepharoplasty treatment plan you discussed in your consultation. On the upper eyelid, the incision is concealed almost entirely by hiding it along a natural crease. Then, the fat is relocated, the eyelid muscles are tightened, and any excess skin is removed. For the lower eyelid, the incision might be made immediately below the lash line, at the outer corner of the eye, or even on the inner lid. Similar to the upper eyelid, excess skin is removed, and fat is redistributed. Incisions are then closed with sutures or skin glue. After one week, your sutures are removed if they were used.

Blepharoplasty Recovery & Results

As you heal from surgery, your doctor will give you detailed instructions on caring for the skin around your eyes and eyelids. They will include using cold compresses and eyelid lubricants. Most people heal very quickly from Blepharoplasty. You can expect minor swelling and bruising, but these side effects will subside in a few days. Patients can go back to their regular routines within two weeks. You will notice your stunning results as soon as the inflammation and bruises diminish. Your results are permanent and last up to ten years. However, normal aging continues to occur, so it is essential to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to maximize your outcomes.

Blepharoplasty Frequently Asked Questions

Blepharoplasty is not a painful surgery, and recovery is typically straightforward. Typically, post-operative discomfort is minor and easily treatable with pain medication.

Blepharoplasty complications are rare, but some minor side effects include dry eyes, weeping, scarring, and the inability to close your eyes. During your visit, your surgeon will discuss potential risks and side effects with you.

As with any surgery, you can expect to have some scars. Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty, on the other hand, only needs small incisions made in the natural crease of the eyelids, so the scars should be difficult to see after they heal. Patients may have some redness around the incisions right after surgery, but this usually goes away quickly over the next few weeks and months.

By addressing the look of sagging or drooping skin, your eyes will appear younger. In addition, your entire face will appear more youthful. Those who have blepharoplasty done experience a surge of confidence in their physical appearance. The normal longevity of the results of Blepharoplasty is greater than ten years.
